Never done that. If I'm putting money on something, I want to be sure it's right before I hit the 'spend my money NOW' button.

I have done it a few times LOL. One time I thought I had a perfect domain name that was available, registered it and then realized it was a typo. So I went to register the correct one and that one was already taken a for sale for over 10-grand :( I was heart broken lol...

I have also done this a few times. Normally one is just stuck with a mis-spelled domain until it expires. It is very, very rare but I did once receive a refund from Godaddy due to a mis-spelled domain and they also sent me a discount code for 50% off of my next purchase.
Like I said, it's very rare and I really don't expect the same treatment if it ever happens again.  ;)

I am surprised they refunded you! I don't think they would have got the ICANN fee back for that one!

No, they did state that they had to eat the ICANN fee but since they hold more than 40 domains from me at any given time, I guess that they decided to just let things ride.

I don't think my host would do that. They also say they cannot refund if I pay with paypal.com but unless I am wrong, I can force refund with paypal can't I?

Forcing a refund with Paypal can be done but not in all situations. It can depend on whether your Paypal account is hooked up to a credit card or bank account. If using a bank account most transactions through Paypal can take up to five weekdays (working days). Thus allowing a decent amount of time to cancel the transaction, meaning a cancellation as opposed to a refund.
Some, not all credit card companies may consider electronic transactions from one source to another to be immediate, if the proper funds are available at the time of the actual transaction. This would leave a decision for refund up to the payee, not the payer. This is where registering a Dispute through Paypal may be required. More than not Disputes normally go in favor of the payee, especially if the payee is a well established business.
Also, some businesses have a strict policy on no refunds. Paypal will normally abide by the company's (payees) terms and refused to offer a refund regardless of the situation.
